— ABOUT_THIS_ROUTE

Immerse yourself in the alpine heart of the Eastern Pyrenees on a cross-border circuit linking the Ripollès (Spain) and Conflent (France) via their three most iconic mountain huts — Coma de Vaca, Ulldeter and Ras de la Carança — with a final night at the sanctuary of Núria. Far from comfortable forest tracks, the route seeks the skyline: glacial bowls, sharp frontier ridges and deep valleys where the silence is broken only by the whistle of marmots. The itinerary follows the valley and pass routes at a comfortable pace, but it runs beneath a magnificent line of summits — so each day offers the option to bag a peak (Balandrau, Bastiments, Gra de Fajol, Torreneules, Puigmal) and tailor the challenge to your form on the day.

01A true hut-to-hut circuit — Coma de Vaca, Ulldeter and Ras de la Carança, finishing at the Núria sanctuary
02The Carança lakes: Estany Gran, Estany Negre and the luminous Estany Blau beneath the frontier ridge
03The Camí dels Enginyers — a legendary balcony path high above the Freser gorges to Núria
04Peaks on demand: Balandrau, Bastiments (2,881m), Gra de Fajol, Torreneules and Puigmal, added at your own pace

DAY 01

Arrival & check-in

RIBES DE FRESER QUERALBS
0 KM+0 M0 M WALK

Arrival at the historic stone village of Queralbs (1,236 m), perched at the mouth of the Freser gorges. Check in to your hotel, wander the Romanesque streets and the church of Sant Jaume, and rest your legs before the first stage. No walking today.

TONIGHT Village hotel, Queralbs

DAY 02

Into the Freser gorges

QUERALBS COMA DE VACA
8.7 KM+865 M55 M3h WALK

A steady climb up the Freser gorges opens the traverse: down to the Daió power station, across the river and up past the Salt del Grill waterfall and the switchbacks of Les Marrades, levelling out at the scenic Pla de les Eugues before the welcoming Coma de Vaca refuge (1,996 m). Optional summit: add Balandrau (2,584 m) for a sweeping eastern panorama — about +2 h 30 and ~590 m extra.

TONIGHT Refugi de Coma de Vaca

DAY 03

Coll de la Marrana

COMA DE VACA ULLDETER
6 KM+534 M294 M3h WALK

A short but scenic high-mountain stage. Following the infant Freser through grazed pastures you climb to the Coll de la Marrana (2,530 m), the watershed between the Ter and Freser, then traverse the GR-11 to the historic Refugi d'Ulldeter, the cradle of Catalan mountaineering. Optional summits: from the col, bag Gra de Fajol (2,714 m) and Pic de Bastiments (2,881 m), the roof of the trek — together about +1 h 30 and ~650 m extra.

TONIGHT Refugi d'Ulldeter

DAY 04

Into France: the Bacivers valley

ULLDETER RAS DE LA CARANÇA
7.8 KM+369 M773 M3h WALK

A gentle crossing into France. From Ulldeter the trail traverses beneath the frontier ridge and drops into the quiet Bacivers valley, a broad, lonely bowl of small tarns where a little cairn-to-cairn route-finding adds a touch of adventure, before the tranquil Ras de la Carança refuge in the French Conflent. Optional summits: Pic Gallinàs or Pic Rodó for cross-border views — up to about +3 h and ~380 m extra.

TONIGHT Refugi de Ras de la Carança

DAY 05

The Carança lakes

RAS DE LA CARANÇA COMA DE VACA
12.8 KM+892 M728 M6h WALK

The big day, and one of the most beautiful. Climbing back towards Spain you pass the celebrated Carança lakes — Estany Gran, Estany Negre and the luminous Estany Blau — beneath sheer walls to the Coll de Carança (2,720 m) on the frontier ridge, then descend a wild valley home to chamois and mouflon, rejoining the Freser at Pla de les Eugues and Coma de Vaca. Optional summit: add Torreneules (2,711 m) from the ridge — about +2 h and ~260 m extra.

TONIGHT Refugi de Coma de Vaca

DAY 06

Camí dels Enginyers to Núria

COMA DE VACA NÚRIA
10 KM+368 M410 M3.5h WALK

One of the most famous balcony paths in the Pyrenees. The Camí dels Enginyers threads the steep flanks of the Torreneules high above the Freser gorges, with a short cable-protected section at the Clot del Malinfern, before easing to the sanctuary of the Vall de Núria, where you spend the night at the Alberg Núria (Xanascat). Optional summit: from Núria, add Puigmal (2,910 m) as a half-day round trip — about 4–5 h and ~1,065 m of ascent.

TONIGHT Alberg Núria (Xanascat)

DAY 07

The Núria gorges & departure

WE BOOK THE HUTS

A guide then calls every refuge and inn by hand to lock your nights, usually within 48h. Only when they're all confirmed do we capture the deposit. If one's full we propose alternative dates — and if nothing fits, the hold is released in full, never charged.

The remaining balance falls due 60 days before you set off. We send a reminder.

04
HOW TO PAY

Card at checkout, or pay by bank transfer for a 5% discount on the total.
