Terms & Conditions
LAST_UPDATED · July 6, 2026
These terms govern the trekking holidays and mountain expeditions we plan and support. Please read them before you book — paying a deposit means you accept them on behalf of everyone in your party.
1 · Who we are
This website and the trekking holidays and mountain expeditions sold through it are operated by Altura Expeditions, S.L. (“we”, “us”, “Altura Expeditions”), a company registered in Spain with tax ID B22687750 and registered office at Calle Gutiérrez Herrero 52, 33402 Avilés (Asturias), Spain.
As required under Spanish law, we operate as a licensed travel agency under licence no. AV.404.AS (Principado de Asturias) and as a registered active-tourism company entered in the Registry of Active Tourism Companies of Cantabria under no. 110381.
You can reach us any time at info@alturaexpeditions.com or on WhatsApp at +34 684 79 41 56.
2 · What we provide — guided and self-guided
We run two kinds of trip. On a guided expedition, an Altura guide leads the group on the mountain. On a self-guided route, you walk unaccompanied using the materials and remote support we provide — pre-loaded GPS tracks and a digital roadbook, every night’s accommodation, luggage transfers, arrival/departure transfers where booked, a daily WhatsApp check-in, live re-routing if the weather turns, and a 24/7 emergency line with Mountain Rescue coordination.
On a self-guided trip, no guide is present on the trail. You are responsible for your own navigation, pace, decisions and safety in the mountains, using the materials and remote support we provide. The detailed inclusions and exclusions for each trip are shown on that trip’s page and form part of your contract.
3 · Booking and your contract
A booking request becomes a binding contract only once we have confirmed availability, you have paid the deposit, and we have sent you a written booking confirmation. The person making the booking confirms they are 18 or over and is authorised to accept these terms for every member of the party.
A 20% deposit confirms your place on every trip. How the balance is split depends on the trip — your booking confirmation and the trip page tell you which schedule applies:
- Higher-value expeditions run on a staged schedule: the 20% deposit, a further 40% at 90 days before departure, and the final 40% at 60 days before departure.
- Shorter, lower-cost trips run on a simpler schedule: the 20% deposit and the remaining 80% at 60 days before departure.
If you book within 60 days of departure, the full price is payable at the time of booking.
4 · Prices and payment
Prices are shown per person in euros (€) and cover the inclusions listed on the trip page. Payments are processed securely by Stripe; we never see or store your full card details. We may correct obvious errors in a price before your booking is confirmed. Costs not listed as included — for example travel to and from the trailhead, insurance, and personal expenses — are your responsibility.
5 · Your responsibilities
- Make sure everyone in your party has the fitness and hill-walking experience the route’s grade (1–5) requires, and carries suitable equipment, footwear and clothing for the mountains.
- Follow the route and safety guidance we provide, use your own judgement on the day, and — on self-guided trips — turn back when conditions demand it.
- Respect local rules, refuge protocols, private land and the natural environment.
- Give us accurate names, dates, dietary needs and emergency-contact details, and tell us promptly of any change.
6 · Travel insurance — mandatory
Comprehensive travel insurance is a condition of booking. Every participant must hold a valid policy that covers mountain trekking at the altitudes on your trip, medical treatment, mountain rescue and emergency evacuation, and trip cancellation and curtailment. We may ask for your insurer and policy number before departure, and may decline participation without adequate cover.
7 · Health and fitness
You must honestly assess your own fitness and disclose any medical condition that could affect your safety on the trip. The mountain terrain is remote; professional medical help can be hours away. If in doubt, speak to us and to your doctor before booking.
8 · Acceptance of risk
Trekking in a mountain environment carries inherent risks that cannot be eliminated — including uneven and exposed terrain, rockfall, river crossings, rapidly changing weather, altitude, and remoteness from help. You knowingly and voluntarily accept these risks for yourself and your party; on self-guided trips, where no guide is present, you accept them in full. Nothing in this clause limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
9 · Changes by you
If you need to change your dates or party after booking, contact us and we will do our best to help, subject to availability and any costs charged by accommodation and transport suppliers. You may transfer your booking to another suitable person before departure. Cancellations are handled under our Cancellation Policy.
10 · Changes or cancellation by us
We may adjust an itinerary — including stages, accommodation or transfers — where this is necessary for your safety or because of circumstances beyond our control, and will offer the nearest reasonable alternative. If we have to cancel a trip ourselves for reasons other than force majeure, your options are set out in the Cancellation Policy.
11 · Our liability
We accept liability for losses you suffer as a direct result of our own negligence or failure to provide the services we contracted to provide. We are not liable for: the inherent risks of mountain travel; your own acts, omissions or navigation decisions; the acts or omissions of independent suppliers (such as hotels, refuges and transfer operators); or events beyond our reasonable control (see force majeure). Our total liability for any booking is limited to the total price paid for that booking. We do not exclude or limit liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited under Spanish law. Your statutory consumer rights are unaffected.
12 · Cancellations and refunds
Cancellations, amendments and refunds are governed by our Cancellation Policy, which forms part of these terms.
13 · Privacy
We handle your personal data in line with our Privacy Policy.
14 · Complaints
If something isn’t right, tell us as soon as possible — ideally during your trip via the WhatsApp line, so we can put it right then and there. Any complaint not resolved on the trip should be sent to info@alturaexpeditions.com within 28 days of your return.
15 · Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by Spanish law. Disputes are subject to the courts of Avilés (Asturias), Spain, save that consumers may bring proceedings in the courts of their own place of residence where the law so provides. EU consumers may also use the European Commission’s Online Dispute Resolution platform.
